Showstopper! The Improvised Musical – In Continuous Progress
Task
Impressive manages the ongoing press and media campaign for Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, supporting the brand across multiple years. Our work spans national tours, multiple Edinburgh Fringe runs, West End performances, and special productions, alongside overarching PR to maintain the company’s position as a leading name in improvised theatre. The objective is to drive consistent visibility, audience growth, and critical acclaim across both national and regional markets.
What We Do
We deliver a sustained and wide-reaching PR strategy that evolves alongside Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’s touring schedule and performance calendar. Our approach combines national media outreach with an extensive regional press campaign tailored to each venue and run.
Nationally, we secure broadcast, interview, and feature opportunities across key outlets including BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Manchester, BBC Radio Scotland, and BBC Radio Kent, Surrey & Sussex, alongside coverage in theatre and entertainment press such as The Stage, The List, The Resident, and City A.M.. We also drive coverage around key moments including West End runs, London residencies, and seasonal productions, ensuring the show maintains a strong cultural presence.
Regionally, we implement highly targeted campaigns in each tour location, securing previews, interviews, reviews, and widespread event coverage across leading regional titles. This includes consistent press in outlets such as Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail, Hull Daily Mail, Yorkshire Post, Glasgow Evening Times, and Bristol Post, alongside key regional publications across Exeter, Newcastle, North Wales, and beyond. Broadcast remains central to our approach, with regular guest appearances secured across BBC regional radio and local stations nationwide.
Results
Our ongoing campaign delivers extensive and sustained media coverage year-round, with standout results across key campaign moments. For a major West End and national tour announcement, we secured over 40 pieces of coverage in a single news burst across titles including The Scotsman, Yorkshire Post, Manchester Evening News, and Birmingham Mail, creating significant nationwide visibility.
Regional tour campaigns consistently generate between 20–50+ pieces of coverage per run, with strong penetration across local press in cities such as Newcastle, Exeter, Brighton, and across the North East and North West, supported by high-impact BBC regional radio coverage.
At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, we deliver a focused campaign that positions the show as a must-see production. Our Fringe activity secured 15+ pieces of high-profile coverage, including features in The Times (print and online), The Herald, Edinburgh Evening News, and British Comedy Guide, alongside interviews and appearances across BBC Radio 4 Front Row, BBC World Service, and BBC Newscast. Additional coverage included podcast appearances, TV interviews, and national radio spots, significantly amplifying reach during the festival period.
Critically, the Fringe campaign resulted in outstanding reviews, with multiple 5-star ratings from outlets including Theatre Scotland, Edinburgh Festivals Magazine, A Young(ish) Perspective, and Mix Up Theatre, alongside further 4-star reviews from Entertainment Now, Deadline, West End Best Friend, and One4Review. This strong critical response further cemented the show’s reputation as one of the best-reviewed and most in-demand productions at the festival.
Overall, our work ensures that Showstopper! The Improvised Musical remains consistently visible, culturally relevant, and highly regarded across the UK theatre landscape, successfully balancing long-term brand building with targeted, high-impact campaigns for tours, Fringe runs, and special performances.
